Q&A: Jeffry Denman
Jackson Cline
Where are you from? Buffalo, NY
Broadway credits: How To Succeed... (ORC '95 revival), Dream (OBC), Cats (Closing Co), The Producers (OBC), Irving Berlin's White Christmas (OBC)
How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? A call from Marcia Goldberg on Dec. 19, 1994 while I was home in Buffalo decorating the Christmas tree with my parents. Pretty damn great day.
What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? Gypsy Robe Ceremony. The legacy of that gets me every time.
What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? The ineffable feeling you feel when you walk into a Broadway theatre whether you are a theatregoer or a stagehand or an orchestra member or an actor or a director. I don't think anyone has described it to my satisfaction yet, but it is one of the great feelings in the world. I hope in my heart that it has something to do with the ghosts that are there, as well as all the creative energy that has been swirled around them over the years.
What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? The landscape of this country, most specifically Southern Utah.
If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be... Chris Thile of Punch Brothers.
If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose... Honestly, I'd choose a random woman walking down the street. What an incredibly enlightening experience to know not only what it's like to be a woman for a day, but someone I've never met, never had any contact with, whom I've created no preconceived notions about.
To be successful in this business, it takes... Strong muscles: emotional, physical, mental.
Tell us a secret. I've heard you're terrible at keeping secrets. (That's my secret.)
