The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

Allyson's Episode: Broadway Parents (#66)

Where are you from? I’m from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (How ‘bout those Packers? Proud to be a Cheddarhead!)

Broadway Credits: Oh, Kay!, The Will Rogers FolliesRagtime (original cast), Follies (first revival), Man of La ManchaChita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life.

How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? Warren Pincus called my phone and left a message on my answering machine to call his office. When I called his office after taking class, he told me that I had gotten the show.

What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? My favorite event in the Broadway community? I have a few, but definitely The Actors Fund performances and then the baseball league.

What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? What fascinates me about Broadway? Just about everything!!! How I cry when I watch most shows and how incredible it is to watch all the various aspects of a show come together. When you walk into the theater that will house your show for the first time… that’s an indescribable feeling.

What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? The changing colors of the leaves in the parks this time of year is truly inspirational. We have a sweet, “mature” dog, and walks with him are at a slower pace and allows for the opportunities to take in the colors and scents of fall. Strolling through the parks this time of year is incredible. And as always, being with children and my dog–unparalleled educations and experiences. Also these amazing photographic books by National Geographic called Around the World in 125 Years. The photos are magnificent, and the stories the photos tell transport you to so many places and put you in touch with so many emotions.

If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be… I’d love to talk to the Dalai Lama. I’d also like to hang with Stevie Wonder (or just go to his concert). And "Off-the-Record, Unplugged" Barack Obama.

If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose… I would trade places for a day with my dog.

To be successful in this business, it takes... vulnerability.

Tell us a secret. If I told you a secret, it wouldn’t be a secret. I’ve got plenty. Let’s go grab an adult beverage and I’ll tell you a few. LOL.
