The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

Mark's Episode: Associate Choreographers (#20)

Where are you from? Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Broadway credits: Footloose, Wicked, 9 to 5, Come Fly Away, West Side Story, If/Then (associate choreographer)

How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? Through my “service.” When I moved to NYC, it was pre cell phones. So, every performer had a service, which was basically an answering machine that you could check wherever you were….from any pay phone. I still remember the number.

What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? The Tonys…..I loved watching them as a kid and I still do. Second is the Macy’s parade for the same reason.

What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? I have always been fascinated by how small and rather unglamorous backstage can be. From the house the shows seem massive and grand with endless space for endless sets. When I did my first Broadway show, I had to change costumes in a stairwell while the stage door would open and close and cold winter gusts would blow past me. Haha!

If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be… My mother……I don’t see her enough.

If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose.. A Tenor 1. And I would schedule all my singing callbacks that day!

To be successful in this business, it takes… Being at the right place at the right time with the right talent to back it up.
