Where are you from? Plano, Texas
Broadway credits: Kinky Boots, Wicked, La Cage aux Folles, The Boy from Oz, Taboo, Dance of the Vampires
How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? My agent called me when I was hanging out in my apartment with a friend. I was so excited, and I was crying and so happy. I didn’t know what to do with myself. My friend told me to run around the block yelling “I’m going to be on Broadway!”…and so I did. Seriously. :)
What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? I love the ceremony of the Gypsy Robe on opening night. It has such tradition behind it, and as a fellow gypsy, I have such admiration and respect for the people that make a living jumping from ensemble to ensemble. It gives the unsung heroes of the chorus a chance to shine!
What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? No matter how long I’ve been in this business, being on Broadway allows me to meet the most inspiring and interesting people that I would normally never get the chance to meet. And not just MEET, but sometimes work with and get to know very well. It still blows my mind. People I grew up admiring become the people I work with. It’s fascinating and humbling.
What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? I’m inspired by so many things. I’m a dancer at heart, so I love seeing new choreographers and dancers get to create and present new works. I’m constantly inspired by what I read, movies I see, art exhibits I go to, and popular music that I’m attracted to. I also love photography, so that is something that inspires me to create in a different medium. I like to try to see things from as many different angles as I can.
If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be…Meryl Streep.
If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose…George Clooney. He’s handsome. He’s got a great job. He has a house on Lake Como. What else do you need?
To be successful in this business, it takes…determination, perseverance, & a sense of humor.
