The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

Jennifer's Episode: Technomania! (#10)

Where are you from? Albuquerque New Mexico! Which is, funny enough, where Little Miss Sunshine is set…the show I’m doing now at Second Stage.

Broadway credits: West Side Story, Women on the Verge (where I met Nikka!), Ghost, Spider-Man

How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? I was non-union and had no agent and went to the West Side Story open call. My son was with me and had been very well behaved during my callback, so I took him to the 99 cent store on 23rd st afterward. While in the store I got the call from casting. So there I am, openly crying in the 99 cent store. No one even noticed. Well, except for my son…he figured I’d lost it and quietly took the dollar from my purse and bought a dart set.

What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? Broadway bowling!! People either get really tipsy or really competitive. Both are entertaining, plus I love to bowl.

What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? The magic. I thought I knew all the secrets until Ghost…I STILL don’t know how Sam walked through the door… and I was standing off stage left!

What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? The documentary “Searching for Sugarman” about a Mexican-American songrwriter named Rodriguez. I won’t spoil the plot but if you haven’t seen it, you should. I was so taken with him; in part because my father is a Latino guitarist/songwriter and so I am. But mostly I loved his music and his lyrics and his story is truly incredible.

If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be…Marianne Wlliamson. I love her books (especially “Return to Love”) and am inspired by her passion and activism. So, if you are listening Marianne, let’s do coffee!!!

If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose… Oprah!!! Seriously, she is THE ultimate inspiration and I know her house is cuter than mine. Oprah if YOU are listening and wanna spend a day in Harlem, let a girl know!

To be successful in this business, it takes… patience, preparedness and perseverance. And an ability to know a lot of “P” words.

Tell us a secret. Well if I told you, it wouldn’t be a secret, now would it? I will tell you it involved some poo.
