The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

Denis' Episode: International Ensemblists (#9)

Where are you from? Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Broadway credits: A Chorus Line, Doctor Zhivago

How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? My agent called me while I was on vacation with my family in Kelowna, British Columbia.

What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? I really enjoy all the major events (The Tony Awards, Gypsy of the Year, etc.) but I want to give a shout out to Broadway Unplugged at Town Hall, which I think is pretty thrilling, special and important. It’s basically the only time all year we get to experience what it used to be like on Broadway when they would sing without microphones in a large space and hear great performers do their thing without any electronic tampering.

What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? The smell of the theaters.

What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? Nature. Animals. Senior citizens. I’ve also started teaching in the last couple years and it’s really rewarding.

If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be… Christopher Plummer or Robin Williams.

If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose… Oprah.

To be successful in this business, it takes… Work harder than you think you can. Learn how to take really good care of yourself. Get out of your comfort zone on a daily basis. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Always keep your sense of humor.

Tell us a secret. I sometimes listen to some pretty embarrassing music…
