The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

Matt's Episode: Double Duty (#5)

Where are you from? Virginia Beach, VA (kind of…my dad was a Navy SEAL Admiral and served for 34 years so we moved every 2.5 years, but I think of Virginia as a state as home. I lived in 12 houses before college)

Broadway credits: Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Promises, Promises.

How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? I was walking on the streets of Philadelphia past city hall after a rehearsal I had been conducting for Fiddler on the Roof at the Walnut Street Theater

What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? While Broadway Bares is a great party, love BC beat. It’s groovy and so supportive and so many of our peers and upcoming choreographers present really cool work that is outside the box.

What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? That people will pay $175 to see us play on stage. no, just kidding. That everyone no matter where they are in their career is SO supportive of each other and that in turn makes the shows SHINE!

What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? The serene mountains of Aspen, CO. I was hiking them and awesome power of nature and the challenge to reach your destination is soooo inspiring.

If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be… Pope Francis.

If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose… that’s hard…Novak Djokovic. I think it would be really cool to play at Wimbledon and be at the top of your game…plus i like that he’s a goofball like me off the court.

To be successful in this business, it takes… a lot of faith that your hard work will pay off and a sense of humor.

Tell us a secret.: There are few things that make me happier late at night than a snickers ice cream candy bar.
