The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

Geoff's Episode: The Road to Broadway (#6)

Where are you from? Brockport, NY (small town outside Rochester, NY)

Broadway credits: Phantom of the Opera, Rock of Ages

How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? I was on tour with Wicked. We were playing Houston, TX and I got a call about a vacancy in the broadway company of Phantom (I had previously been on tour with Phantom). Not only was it my Broadway debut, but I got to play Rauol for the first 7 weeks of the contract (I then covered).

What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? Hands down Broadway Show League Softball. Played with Phantom for 3 years then Rock of Ages for 2 (back to back champions) and this year part of the season with Hands on Hardbody/Cinderella. I love sports, and was captain of my high school varsity baseball team (go blue devils), any excuse to get out and play.

What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? Dancers. Dance. Dancing. It is not my first threat of the famous triple, so I have a profound respect and awe for those who do it well 8 shows a week.

What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? The Supreme Court’s ruling on DOMA, and The West Wing. I am currently spending my nights binge watching and dreaming of what we can accomplish as citizens.

If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be… Whoa. Deep…so many people! David Eggers comes to mind. I really dig his writing and also his organization 826 National. If ya don’t know it, look it up!

If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose… Speaker of the House John Boehner. I would use all 24 hours and the GOP would not like what I would do. Mmwwwaaahaaaahaaaa

To be successful in this business, it takes… Passion. Hard Work. Talent. Asset management. The willingness to learn from everything/everyone. And a balance of wants.

Tell us a secret. I can fit $1.50  in quarters up my nose.
