The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

Garett's Episode: College (or, There's No One Way To Broadway) pt. 1 (#55)

Where are you from? Hollis, New Hampshire.

Broadway credits: Matilda, Newsies, Mary Poppins

How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? I was out on the road playing Neleus in the North American Tour of Mary Poppins and we were playing Omaha in the dead of winter. One night after the show, a bunch of us went out to get a bite to eat and a drink. It was about 11:30pm, and I got a call at the table from our associate director. I figured something was up, so I left the table and went into the bathroom. He told me that the person playing Neleus in the Broadway company had put in his notice and that they wanted me to replace him!!! I think I almost dropped the phone!! This was something that I had really wanted to happen, so it was very surreal to experience it. When I was younger, I always imagined what it would feel like to be told I was going to be on Broadway, and this moment exceeded it immensely. :-)

What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? Definitely the Tony Awards. It’s like the Super Bowl of Broadway!

What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? The history fascinates me. I think it’s so incredible to think about all of the legends who have graced these stages before us. When I was in Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam Theatre, I would often think about the Ziegfield Follies revues that were performed there back in the early 1920s. It’s feels really cool to play a small part in this amazing history.

What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? My sister is always inspiring to me. She is a competitive horseback rider and also manages and runs her own business on her farm in New Hampshire. She is probably the strongest and hardest working person I know. If you are ever in NH check out her farm! www.coyotespringfarm.com

If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be… Kate Middleton…though it would probably be tea right?

If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose… Beyonce?

To be successful in this business, it takes… Dedication, passion, a good attitude, and a little luck.

Tell us a secret. I just ate an entire pizza. Sorry not sorry.
