The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

Brynn's Episode: Sondheim Ensemblists (#37)

Where are you from? Michigan

Broadway credits: Beauty & the Beast, Hairspray, Sunday In the Park, Wicked, Annie, Honeymoon In Vegas

How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? My agent called me at the Starbucks (46th & 6th) where I was working. I told them I quit, stole my hat and apron (potential Halloween costume), got on my bike, and rode across 46th street to get home. As I passed the Lunt I yelled “Heeeeeeeey!”

What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? Gypsy of the Year

What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? How people keep trying to write Holocaust musicals.

What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? One of my trainers at Mark Fisher Fitness, Matt Wilson. He inspires and changes lives at the gym every day (that is an understatement) and his one-man show “Clown Baggage” just won 3 grants. He’s a true artist. And a truly SUCCESSFUL artist. He’s one of the most self-actualized people I’ve ever met and he’s one of the bravest people I know.

If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be…Arnold Shapiro. Executive Producer of “Big Brother”. I want to know everything.

If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose…Barack Obama (I’d get up early that day and try to get a lot of shit done)

To be successful in this business, it takes…Incredibly thick skin, impeccable work ethic, unwavering discipline, an ability to view and judge yourself objectively, talent, and luck.

Tell us a secret. I never finished “The Wire” but I lie and tell people how much I loved it because I just can’t with the yelling.
