Where are you from? Gastonia, North Carolina
Broadway credits: Kiss Me Kate, Chicago, Follies, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Never Gonna Dance, La Cage Aux Folles, The Wedding Singer, Mary Poppins, Sister Act, After Midnight
How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? I was in Las Vegas for seven weeks as a temp replacement on the tour of Chicago (i’d been on that tour for a year and just left) when my agent called to tell me that i’d booked the revival of Kiss Me, Kate. I’d almost missed the callback because i lived in Brooklyn at the time and when i gave the cab driver the address that morning, he took me to 26th street in Brooklyn, not Manhattan. Changing into a dance belt in the back of a cab…not recommended.
What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? The gypsy run…unofficial first public performance, usually for friends and others in the community to get the cast ready for a paying audience.
What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? The amount of recycling we tend to do…with directors, choreographers and other designers. We no longer take artistic chances.
What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? Art, Architecture and music always inspire me…I’m always in awe of texture and how it changes in light
If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be… David Foster
If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose… Anna Wintour
To be successful in this business, it takes… balls of steel and a heart of pure gold to take the rejection but not let it harden you
