The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

Robin's Episode: RENT Retrospective

Where are you from? Norwalk, CT

Broadway credits: Rent, In the Heights, La Cage Aux Folles, Wicked

How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? It was my sister’s birthday/Veteran’s Day, around 10:30am when the phone rang. It was actually my agent’s last day at the agency and he casually said, “Hey. How does a Broadway contract sound?” Screaming quickly ensued. I was at the theater that night learning the show.

What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? I love collecting money for BCEFA, although I wish there was no need to. It’s such a beautiful gesture that community provides in such a casual, uneventful way. We just stand with buckets. It’s guerrilla work at its finest.

What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? I love to see performances more than once and see how they evolve or don’t. How the show is affected when there is a quiet house vs. a loud reactive one or when an amazing understudy goes on.

What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? My niece and nephews. They are the best. I cannot wait to share Wicked with my 7 year old niece. I’d like to believe she will finally understand (somewhat) what I do for a living.

If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be… My favorite author, Elizabeth Gilbert or Hillary Clinton.

If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose… Hugh Jackman, I wanna know what it’s like to be that tall.

To be successful in this business, it takes… Stupidity, hard work and the maintaining the belief that you can do it/Faith

Tell us a secret. Every successful person, be it in the arts, politics, humanitarianism started out JUST LIKE YOU! No one is actually more special. Some people just realize how capable we all are. Also, I once farted onstage and the mic picked it up.
