Where are you from? Greenfield, MA
Broadway credits: Les Liaisons Dangereuses, The Book of Mormon, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical
How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? I was temping at Citibank (one of my good ‘ol standby jobs) and my agent called, put me on speakerphone and her entire office yelled “YOU GOT IT!” And I honestly had NO idea what they were talking about. Ha! It was a Tuesday after a holiday weekend, the audition for Liaisons was on a Friday and I had totally forgotten about the audition!! Took me about 30 seconds to realize what the meant…then I yelped, did a happy dance and proceeded to call every important person in my life in no particular order.
What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? I love the Flea Market. I remember (before I WAS on Broadway), I would go to the Flea hoping to spot as many Bway celebs as possible and to get as many tickets as possible in that ticket-envelope event.
What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? Well, right now I’m fascinated by the cyclical nature of Broadway. Every few years, we have the same “problems” (i.e. too many movie musicals, too many shows that have not done enough pre-bway development, a plethora of jukebox-like musicals) and yet we still come back to the age-old necessity: the story must be worthy of becoming a musical. No amount of money or fame in the world can make a show “work.” Broadway is filled with great stories and even greater storytellers. If we remember that, there should never be a “flop.” (Easier said than done…)
What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? I’ve always loved animals - but recently have found myself drawn to animal rights causes, as well as sustainable and humane food & farming initiatives. I’ve met some amazing people (including Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, of Beautiful!) who are great champions for both causes. To me, that is such an inspirational path and one I hope to stay on.
If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be… Right now, I’m a really fascinated by the new Pope. (I mean - you said ANYone) Regardless of your beliefs, you gotta admit that it takes some pretty big…rosary beads…to change the PR for a Worldwide institution like the Church. Pretty impressive to me.
If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose… An imagineer at Disney…I think I was born to the wrong profession sometimes. I LOVE Disney!!! Being an imagineer for a day would make my life!
To be successful in this business, it takes… A strong network, both professionally and personally.
Tell us a secret. I’m secretly an 85 year old woman who likes to go to a casino a few times a year, drink mudslides and do the buffets.
