The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

Jennifer's Episode: Split Tracks (#23)

Where are you from? San Diego, CA

Broadway credits: Currently a swing in ALADDIN, Before that Dance Captain/Swing/Understudy in Rock of Ages

How did you hear you’d booked your first Broadway show? My audition was on a Friday, so then I had to wait the WHOLE WEEKEND to find out!!  I got the call Monday morning, and they asked me to start rehearsals the next day!!!!

What is your favorite event in the Broadway community? I love Broadway in Bryant Park…it gives everyone, including people who can’t afford a Broadway ticket, the opportunity to see some of Broadway’s best sing and dance and give you a taste of some of the hottest shows that season. This is NYC, Broadway should be everywhere!

What’s something about Broadway that fascinates you? How hard it is.  Broadway is hard…for everyone! No matter who you are or what capacity you work in on Broadway, it is 8 shows a week with rehearsals, appearances, early mornings, late nights, taking care of yourself and being on your game. It’s SO fun, that’s why we do it right? But it definitely is not easy!

What, other than theatre, has inspired you recently? People helping people. I keep hearing stories about friends going above and beyond to help others and it instantly reminds me what’s important in life. Perspective is EVERYTHING.

If I could have coffee with any living person, it would be… President Obama…I think it would be fascinating, fun and uplifting.

If I could trade places with anybody for a day, I would choose… I’m obsessed with Ballerinas right now…I think I was a classical ballerina in a past life! I would have to say Misty Copeland. I would love to know how it feels to dance like that.

To be successful in this business, it takes… Confidence and Perseverance.  This biz is SO hard and if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will.

Tell us a secret. I’m adopted!!
