What is The Ensemblist?
The Ensemblist is the audio podcast for those curious about how Broadway really works. We interview musical theatre’s unsung heroes about their lives, both on and off the stage. We start with a topic, interview three guests who have a wealth of experience on that topic, and cut it all together for another tiny glimpse into the Broadway community.
What’s an ensemblist?
It's simple: an ensemblist is a chorus member. They may die on a barricade, tap dance on a giant dime, or soar over the audience dressed as a flying monkey, but each individual is a talented performer with a wealth of experiences to share.
How often do you release episodes?
We release a main episode every other Sunday, and something supplementary on alternating weeks (Unedited, Rehearsal Reports, etc). Make sure to subscribe to the show to keep up with all the new content!
I want to listen to the podcast! Where do I start?
First, subscribe to the podcast in the iTunes store, or, if you have an iPhone, with the Podcasts app. If you’re not a Mac person, you can bookmark theensemblist.podbean.com, or subscribe on TuneIn or Stitcher. You can also listen to our whole archive by visiting our Episodes page.
Who are the guests?
Our awesome guests are cast members from every Broadway show you can think of, past and present! The journey of each Broadway performer is unique and fascinating: combining training, passion, and talent with being in the right place at just the right time. Our guests have been so generous in sharing stories about their experiences, why they love what they do, and how it all comes together. You can read more about them by visiting our Guests page. We make them all answer our soon-to-be famous Q&A so you can get to know them better!
What are your tech specs?
We record the podcast using SHURE Beta 58A microphones and a PreSounus Audiobox. Episodes are edited in GarageBand and hosted on PodBean. When we need to do Skype recordings, we record using AudioHijack Pro.
Who wrote that incredibly catchy theme song?
Why, The Skivvies, of course! We love Nick Cearley and Lauren Molina so much, and are forever grateful that they wrote this song for us.
Who are the other folks you always thank at the end of every episode?
Warren Schatz is an amazing family friend of Nikka's who lent us our recording equipment so we could take our show to the next level, and Matthew Murphy took the photo that became our logo. Joy Nelson designed our logo for us. We love them all very much and are really grateful they helped us out.
I have an idea for an episode/want to bring you to my school for a masterclass/think you should know how pretty you are! How do I contact you?
Head on over to the Contact page and drop us a line! We can also be found on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Tumblr, Instagram...you name it, we're there. Can't wait to connect!
