The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist will give you the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of the Broadway experience. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.

1. What's your name and hometown?

Maddy Apple from Jupiter, FL

2. What is your role/track in your Broadway debut?

Ensemble and understudy for Irene Molloy

3. How did you find out you had booked the part?

I wasn't expecting the call at all! I was in callbacks for the National Tour and received an offer for the Ensemble/US Irene Molloy Track. Two days later, I received the official offer for the Tour as well as an offer for Broadway as a replacement in the same exact track. My agents called me and said it was a possibility, and I received the official call 30 minutes later. I was in total shock! I had no idea it was even a possibility.

4. What's been the most surprising thing about preparing to perform the show?

How much Stage Management and the Dance Department trust you to do your own work! I honestly didn't have that much rehearsal. During a 3 week rehearsal process, I had about 6 official rehearsals and a put-in with costume, and I watched the show as much as I wanted in the evenings. They really trust that you are capable of doing the work on your own. The rehearsal environment is relaxed yet efficient. It's so refreshing!

5. What are you looking forward to most about your experience on Broadway?

I am most excited to feel the energy of a Broadway audience every night. The audience is ELECTRIC at Hello, Dolly! I could feel the energy when I was watching the show in rehearsals, and I can't wait to experience it every night from the stage. It's truly something special!

I'm also looking forward to performing with Bernadette Peters, Bette Midler, and Donna Murphy! Just saying that out loud doesn't seem real...OMG! It's a dream come true to watch all three of these incredible women perform such an iconic role. I'm so honored to share the stage with all three of them!
